Lesson 1
Document the Outcomes
If you want to share the diagram digitise the map and group themes where appropriate. Capture key insights and the sense of energy or emotion in the room.
Share this with participants and relevant leaders, ideally alongside a short summary that reflects:
- What was discussed
- What emerged as priorities
- What the next steps might be – ideally also with clear timelines and identified leads (where applicable)
Position the map as a tool for listening and alignment, not just diagnosis.
In this video Lindy Binder discusses some of the impacts of the Systems Mapping in PLANET4B:
Lesson 2
Create an Ongoing Feedback Loop
If possible, continue the conversation – for example:
- Share updates on actions taken
- Invite further contributions or reflections
- Use the map as a live reference point
This helps build momentum and avoids extractive use of participant insight. It also positions systems mapping as a participatory process, not a one-off consultation.
