Prof Lummina G Horlings
Biography
Prof Dr Lummina G Horlings currently holds a chair in Socio-Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences of the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. Her research work broadly deals with ‘the human factor’ in spatial planning. She is an expert in socio-spatial planning, place-based development, sustainability, collective citizenship, place leadership and values.
Lummina studied land- and water management and human (environmental) geography, and holds a PhD in Policy Science.
She coordinated the Marie Curie ITN programme SUSPLACE and participated in the Marie Curie ITN project RECOMS including supervising three research fellows. She also participated in the COST Action IS1007 ‘Investigating Cultural Sustainability’ and in the EU projects: Rural Alliances, DERREG, EUWelNet and GLAMUR.
Lummina is a member of the Research Committee of the Regional Studies Association and the RSA Research Network ‘The Place of Leadership in Urban and Regional Development’.
She has edited several books on passion, vital coalitions, leadership and the role of culture in regional development.
