Exploring other models of co-creation and co-production in a care-full scholarly context (I)
As an aid to further exploring the relationship between co-creation and care-full scholarship, we highlight here a couple of other frameworks which members of this MOOC may, alike us, find it helpful to think with. The first of these is the Spiral of Co-creation, “a six stage spiral, a map for navigating difficult times and co-creating the results we wish to see” which is featured on the Great Transition Stories virtual hub.
As explained in much fuller detail on their website, the starting point for co-creation with this spiral, is deep listening, which includes setting aside your own knowing and grand plans. By listening and observing this in turn enables greater attentiveness to develop in order to name and identify ‘what is in need of change or starting to change’.
The next step in the cycle is connecting to innovators, the emphasis here being on the need to work collaboratively, especially with local, place-based based innovators, in order to make change happen. By regularly nourishing these connections, including through such as ‘identifying synergies, sharing resources, creating safe spaces for leaders to learn together’ (such as, perhaps a care-full scholarship MOOC), this helps the change making to gain traction and momentum.
Co-creation of results is what is achieved through the making and nourishing of connections, whilst illuminating new stories is about sharing and documenting these results in ways which will help to share learning, inspire others, and thus continue an ever-expanding spiral of co-creation. Many such examples of inspiring transition stories can also be found on the virtual hub on which this spiral is featured.
